What to Expect From a Professional Dog Photography Session in Cheshire
If you’ve ever wondered what actually happens during a professional dog photography session, you’re not alone. Many of my clients come to me feeling excited but a little nervous, usually wondering whether their dog will behave, sit still, or even cooperate at all.
As a professional dog photographer in Cheshire, my sessions are designed to be calm, flexible and completely tailored to your dog’s personality. Whether your dog is bouncy, shy, nervous or wonderfully chaotic, this guide will walk you through exactly what to expect.
Before Your Dog Photography Session
Once you enquire, we’ll chat about your dog, their temperament, and what you’d love from your session and artwork. This helps me plan a session that suits you and your dog(s) perfectly.
You’ll also receive preparation advice, including:
What (if anything) to bring
How to help your dog feel relaxed beforehand
Clothing guidance for owners (if you’re joining the photos)
There’s no pressure for your dog to perform — sessions are always led by them.
During the Session
Sessions can take place in your home, outdoors, or as a studio-style setup in a familiar environment.
We work at your dog’s pace. There’s plenty of time for breaks, cuddles and reassurance, and absolutely no forcing poses. I focus on capturing natural expressions, tiny details and moments that reflect who your dog truly is.
If your dog doesn’t sit? That’s fine. If they’re nervous? We slow down. If they’re excitable? We embrace it.
After the Session
Following your session, I carefully edit your images and invite you to view your final photographs. From here, you can select your beautifully crafted artwork designed to last a lifetime.
Many clients tell me they didn’t realise how emotional this part would feel! Seeing their dog captured in a way they’ve never seen before.
Is a Professional Dog portrait session Worth It?
Your dog is part of your family. These photos aren’t just for now, they become memories you’ll treasure for years to come.
